What is bikejoring?

It is a sport where your dog is harnessed to you bike via a bungee line and then you ride with your dog out front pulling.

The equipment required is minimal and training again is minimal compared to the likes of agility. You will require a harness for your dog, a bungee line and a bikejoring arm (which attaches to the frame of your bike and protrudes over the front wheel of the bike to stop the line from fowling the front wheel)

The main areas to pay attention to when starting bikejoring are the following:

  • a correctly fitting harness designed for pulling (not a harness designed for lead walking etc)

  • teaching your dog a few simple commands for moving forward, turning left and right and stopping

  • fitness of your dog (and you!)

Bikejoring as a fun friendly sport and with new clubs starting up all the time, joining a group near you has never been easier. Whether you just want to have fun and adventures with your dog or want to take it a step further and enter some races, bikejoring is a great way to spend time with your dog, improving your relationship and keeping them fit and healthy at the same time.
